Dyeing hair and beard in brown or dark brown

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Q. Recently I heard mufti sahib saying that men should not dye their hair and beard black. My question is, what if you color the hair and beard in brown or dark brown, would that be permissible, since it also leaves the hair and beard looking black although it is not black, it looks like black but its either brown or dark brown.

A. Both men and women have been prohibited from coloring in black. Men are allowed to use ‘henna’ to color their hair and beard, once it is not black. Hence, if the color of the ‘henna’ turns out to be brown, or dark brown, there is no harm in using this.

And Allah knows best.
