Question:

If a Shafi Musafir prays full 4 rakats for Asr, would it be ok for a Hanafi Musafir to pray behind him?

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

The Prophet (S.A.W) is known to have said: “The Imam has been designated to be followed.” According to the Shafi school of thought reducing the units of prayer in travel from 4 to 2 is only in need and not done it a normal traveling state.

However, if he is the imam in the praying he should be followed and 4 units will be completed by the Hanafi. In the same manner, the Hanafi traveler who prays behind an imam who is a resident praying 4 units of prayer will be the same and the traveler must pray 4 units along with the imam.
