One of my friend tells me that its haram or mukruh tahreemi to wear a steel strap watch. Meaning a simple metallic watch with steel strap or chain. (Not gold or silver). He says its haram to wear iron so the steel strap is also iron. Please put some light to this matter.

Steel chain is not jewellery; therefore using steel chain watch is allowed. Yes, men should not wear watches specially made for women, he will not be allowed to use them, according to the Hadith: لعن اللہ المتشبھِین بالنساء
