Is the principle of “whatever is not prohibited is permitted” applicable in Shariah laws?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
By profession I deal with many laws, there is a principal of law that “whatever is not prohibited is permitted”. Is this principal applicable in Shariah laws as well?

Answer

(Fatwa: 412/343/B=1433)

In Shariah, a thing is permissible which is neither prohibited nor is a source of prohibition.
