Ref. No. 1096/42-276

In the name of Allah the most Gracious the most Merciful

The answer to your question is as follows:

The minimum amount of Mahr is 10 Dirhams. But the Mahr amount is often negotiated between the parents or guardians of the bride and groom. If the Mahr is excessive to the groom, he or his guardians can talk to bride’s guardian and set the amount which is easily payable for the groom. If the Mahr is set by the mutual concern of both parties, the groom should pay the Mahr to his bride at earliest. The Mahrshould not be set so high for the sake of fame that it becomes difficult for the groom to pay.

And Allah knows best
