Is fasting in the last few days of Sha’baan forbidden by Prophet S.A.W?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftisays.com
Assalamu alaikum,
Can you please tell is it ture the Prophet S.A.W said it is forbiden to fast in the last few days of Sha’baan. As I read this on another islamic website

“The Holy Prophet (SAW) has also forbidden Muslims from fasting one or two days prior to the commencement of Ramadan. Abu Hurairah reported the Holy Prophet (SAW) said,

“Do not fast after the first half of the month of Sha’baan has gone.”

According to another report, the Prophet (SAW) said,

“Do not precede the month of Ramadan with one or two fasts.””

Or is it for weak people?
I have been fasting for the last few days so has my mum. A lot of people keep 6 fast before to ramadan to welcome this new month. Is that wrong!!

Wassalam

Al-jawab billahi at-taufeeq (the answer with Allah’s guidance)

The two Hadith you quoted above means that if one fears in keeping fast in the second half of Sha’ban or one or two fast before Ramadhan may make him weak by the time Ramadhan comes, then he should not keep fast in the second half of Sha’ban or one or two days prior to Ramadhan.

One should remember not to fix any date of fast during this month i.e, keeping fast for 6 days before Ramadhan (as you mentioned above) or specifically on 15th of Sha’ban etc.

Fasting in the month of Sha’ban without the specification of any day is proven from Rasoolullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam). Infact, he used to fast excessively during this month.
