Why Can’t You Marry Your Wife’s Sister in Islam?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My question is marrying two sisters at same time is not allowed in Islam. If Islam allowed a Muslim to marry maximum of four women, then why it is not permissible to marry his wife’s sister. What is the logic behind it. I think two sister can live more happily then others.

Bismillaah

A: This is haraam. The Qur’an and Hadith have prohibited marrying two sisters at the same time.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
