Travelling for Cricket and Ramadaan

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by CouncilofUlama.co.za
Q: I’m a cricketer and I have to play cricket in the month of ramdhan. I will be in England for the whole month but I’m never in the same city for more that 14 days. Do I have to fast, as I’m a traveller still? If I make intention not to fast do I pay kafaarah and if I made intention and broke it do I pay kafaarah? ‎I’m not saying I won’t fast at all, just the days I play. Or is it I’m only allowed not to fast when I’m travelling between the cites?

A:You do not have to fast because you are a traveller.

If you started fasting and then broke your fast there will be no kaffaarah because you are a traveller.

If you made intention not to fast and did not fast you donot have to pay kaffaarah whether you are a traveller or not.

As long as you are a traveller you are allowed not to fast. However ramadaan is such a special month that you should make every effort to fast.
