Sajdah in salaah whilst sitting

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

As salaamu alaykum
With regards to a person who sits on a chair and performs salaah, where should the hands be placed whilst in the sajdah posture. Are that kept on the knees, or placed before the person’s face?

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

If a person is unable to pray whilst standing, then he should pray whilst sitting on the floor. If that too is not possible, then it will be permissible to pray whilst sitting on a chair.

Whilst praying on a chair, a person should bend his head for Sajda more than he bent for Ruku. His hands should be placed on his thighs. The hands should not be streched forward.

If a person places a table infront of the chair and makes Sajda on the table, then the hands should be placed on the table.
