How to go into sajdah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Is there a Hadith which state that we should place the knees before the hand when going into sujud, and to raise the hand before the knees when we rising from sujud?

Answer

Sayyiduna Wail ibn Hujr (radiyallahu’anhu) says that I saw Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) when he went into sajdah, he placed his knees before his hands, and when he rose up [from sajdah] he raised his hands before his knees.’

(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 834 and Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 268)

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has declared this Hadith as sound (hasan gharib). He also cited this as the preferred practice of the majority of the Scholars.

Imam Ibn Hibban (rahimahullah) has declared this Hadith as authentic (sahih)

(Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al-Ihsan, Hadith: 1912)

Hafiz Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullah) has written extensively in support of this.

See Zadul Ma’ad: vol.1 pg.215-224.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
