Does bleeding gums break the fast?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askmufti.co.za

Q: Does bleeding gums break the fast?

A. The fast will break if the blood is swallowed and the amount of blood is more than the saliva. If the blood is spat out or if the saliva is more than the blood, the fast will not break.

Mufti Siraj adds:

This can be determined by the taste in the mouth. If saliva is swallowed with a strong taste of blood in the throat then consider the fast broken. Qadhaa will be necessary.
