Piercing the Finger

Answered according to Hanafi Fiqh by Askmufti.co.za

Q: Is it permissible to pierce your ring finger instead of wearing a wedding ring?

A: Piercing the finger in order to wear a ring is not permissible. Shariah prohibits damaging any part of the body unnecessarily.  The Sunnah teaches that the ring should be worn on the finger. The only piercing allowed is the piercing of the ear lobe. That is permitted by the Sunnah
