Is it necessary for a Son to obey his parents in each and every situation?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Jamia Binoria

My question is that a person is having an inclination towards Deen. He is an undergraduate and having some contacts with Thabligh too. After the graduation from the University he wishes to spend 4 months in thabligh and he has an intention of getting enrolled to a Madrasa too afterwards. But in all these situations he faces quite disturbances from his parents. Earlier when he grew beard he had to undergo lot of difficulties. And he does not have permission either to spend some time in Thabligh or to become an Alim or so. In these conditions is it necessary for him to obey his parents in each and every situation? If no, then which are to be obeyed and which are not to be obeyed? What is the ruling of parents with regard to the religious upbringing of their children?

الجواب حامدا و مصلیا

If the parents of the questioner are in need of his service due to old age and weakness and there remain none else, nor brother or so, except him to attend to them and help, in such a situation the questioner should join the Thabligh activities in local level and have connection with the Thabligh Jamath and try to acquire religious education too in local level. If this is not the case then it is allowed to make journey in pursuit of religious knowledge and go out in Thabligh. Yet, in this situation too, what is preferable is to make effort to please and convince the parents and then make the journey. And parents too should not create obstacles unnecessarily on their way in accomplishing their pious objectives since parents too get equal Sawab automatically due to their good deeds.
