Can a wife and children eat from the husbands gambling earnings?

Question:

Asalamualaikum

I hope you can help me.

My husband earns by gambling.

I know that if the food bought on haram money, it is also haram to eat it.

I am afraid to give food to my husband because all the money in our house is from gambling, I know that I can use this money for my need, but husbands can’t.

1. If I give food to him bought from his gambling money won’t this be assisting in sin?

2. can I buy him clothes from this money?, If he asks me to buy them Or to do anything else for him using the money, for example, pay for some services?

3. can I iron his clothes bought on haram money?

4. my husband was very angry that I don’t give him food because I worry that there will big stress and quarrelling.

As you have mentioned in your query that your husband earns through gambling which is clearly haraam income, there is no doubt about that. However, you can give food to your husband and you and your children can also eat from it and the sin will be on his shoulder.

Furthermore what you said regarding assisting in sin is also correct, but in your situation, you’ll not be considered as assisting in sin because you have no control over the situation.  However in addition to what I’ve mentioned above my suggestion is that, if you have any other money besides that which is halal then you should use that money instead of the money acquired through haram means

out of precaution. Finally, I would strongly advise you to support your husband through sincere advice and showing empathy to him and find ways to bring him away from the gambling habit

And Allah SWT alone knows best.
