Direction during dua in a group

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

Question

  1. If you make dua in a group, do you face the Qiblah or the person who you are doing dua behind?
  2. Is it better to look up when making a dua or looking down?

Answer

  1. It depends when you are making the ijtimai dua.  If it is after Fajr or Asr salah when the imam is facing the people, then he should remain in that position; similarly after a bayaan, but if in janazah or when everyone was facing the qiblah, then the daa’ee should also stay facing the qiblah.
  2. Looking down with humility and attention is better.
