Assalam o alikum
I want to ask about the wiping of neck in wudu according to Hanafi fiqh should i do it or not?
And
What does wiping neck means
The whole neck
Or only the back of neck
Or only the front of neck
Answer
Wa’alaykum as Salām wa rahmatullāhi wa barakātuhu,
In wuḍū, it is preferable to make Mas’h (to pass the wet hands) over the nape (the back part of the neck).
The Jurists have stated that making Mas’h of the throat (the front part of the neck) and other parts of the neck is Bid῾ah (an innovation); hence, that will be impermissible.

و مسح الرقبة بظهر يديه لا الحلقوم لأنه بدعة… قوله: ومسح الرقبة هو الصحيح، وقيل: إنه سنة كما في البحر وغيره قوله: بظهر يديه أي لعدم استعمال بلتهما بحر، فقول المنية: بماء جديد لا حاجة إليه كما في شرحها الكبير، وعبر في المنية بظهر الأصابع ولعله المراد هنا قوله: لأنه بدعة إذ لم يرد في السنة (رد المحتار على الدر المختار – 1 / 124 دار الفكر)
ويسن مسح الرقبة لأنه صلى الله عليه وسلم توضأ وأومأ بيديه من مقدم رأسه حتى بلغ بهما أسفل عنقه من قبل قفاه ولا يسن مسح الحلقوم بل هو بدعة (مراقي الفلاح ص: 34 المكتبة العصرية)
