Quranic ring tones on mobile phones

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Quranic Ring tones on mobile phones?

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

Darul Uloom Deoband have issued a fatwa advising people to refrain from using verses from the Holy Qur’an as ring tones for their mobile phones.

It should be borne in mind that the Holy Quran was not revealed for entertainment purposes but is a light, which enables the person to find the straight path towards Allah (SWA).

Allah (SWA) in the Holy Qur’an has said,

“Alif, Laam, Raa.” This is a book we have sent down to you, that you may take the people out of darkness into the light with the will of their lord- to the path of the mighty, the praiseworthy. (Surah Ibrahim V.1)

Furthermore, The Qur’an is full blessings and was not revealed for trivial matters.

Allah (SWA) says in the Holy Qur’an,

“This is a blessed Book we have revealed to you, so that they deliberate in its verses and so that the men of understanding may take to advise.” (Surah Saad V.29)

Also the Holy Quran is such a powerful tool that by reciting Surah Yasin and any other portions of the Qur’an over the deceased it lessens the punishment of the grave. (Ahsaul Fatawa P.206 V.4)

What we can substantiate is that the Holy Quran was not revealed for trivial issues or matters. One of the etiquettes laid down by the Holy Qur’an is; “When the Quran is recited, listen to it and be silent, so that you may be blessed.” (Surah Al Araf V.204)

A person who truncates the Surah when answering the call is clearly going against the order of the quranic verse. Therefore, the conclusion we can deduce that it is severely disliked, against the respect and sanctity of the Qur’an to have Quranic ring tones on the mobile phone.
