Assalamu alaikum mufti sahab my brother is getting married very soon in sha allah
So i want to Know the rights of husband and wife in islam?
Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,
May Allah bless your brother with a blissful marriage and pious offspring.
A successful marriage is that in which each spouse assists the other, and fulfills their rights. This can only be done when the spouse knows what is expected of them.
To begin with, it is the right of the wife that she receives a fair dowry from the husband. Thereafter, the husband is responsible to take care of all the financial needs of his wife. He needs to provide her with accommodation, clothing, groceries and food, medication and other needs. Even if his wife is wealthy, then too it is the responsibility of the husband to take care of the expenses of his wife.
In turn, the wife should obey all the commandments of her husband, which does not contradict the laws of Shariah. If the husband commands her to do something that is not permissible, then it will not be permissible for the wife to obey such a commandment.
It is the right of each spouse to treat the other with respect, kindness and dignity. Each spouse should fulfill the sexual needs of his/her partner. Beside that, he/she should also be a pillar of support, and should not ignore the emotional and mental needs of the other.
Insha Allah, if one has the fear of Allah, then he/she will attain peace and tranquility, which is one of the primary objectives of marriage.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best
