Accidentally involved in fortune-telling

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

My non-muslim parents wanted me to touch some crystals, and they told me that it was to see if I could feel any difference in temperature in the crystals. I didn’t understand what it was, and after touching some of the crystals I realized that this was some fortune-telling. As far as I understand, this fortune-telling was claiming to be able to tell peoples personality when touching the crystals. I didn’t believe in it, and as soon as I realized what it was, I walked away. Are my prayers not accepted for the next 40 days because of this?

Answer

Assalāmuʿalaykum Wa Raḥmatullāhi Wa Barakātuh

Since you had not intentionally involved yourself in the matter at hand, and you had done your best by averting from it at the time of realization, you will not be sinful or liable in any way, nor will your prayers be affected.

We advise that you increase in good deeds as much as possible, so as to rid any ill effects that may have come about therefrom.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best
