Cure for Every Disease

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by CouncilofUlama.co.za

Q: Please can you provide me with information on the following. I recently read a hadith stating something like: for every disease that Allah has sent down, He has sent down a cure. What if after consulting with a doctor they say there is no cure for a condition? I have this skin problem and doctors say there is no cure. I, however have faith in Allah and ask your advise on what verses of Quraan, wazifas or nafl salah I can read for shifa.

Is there a hadith that states when a pregnant women is in labour her duas are accepted? Insha Allah I’m soon to give birth but this problem is causing me great distress. Can you please assist me with some info?

A: Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi wa Sallam) has said that ‘for every sickness there is a cure’.  (Muslim V7 P21). The words of Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi wa Sallam) is absolutely true and we as Muslims believe in it.

The possible reasons for not being cured are the following:
a) The doctor diagnosed the sickness incorrectly and is administering the wrong medication.
b) Although he has diagnosed correctly, the doctor is not aware of the appropriate medication for the particular sickness.
c) Even if the diagnosis and medication is correct, the medication can only have the desired effect if Allah Ta’aala so wills and this is mentioned in a Hadeeth. For wisdom beyond our understanding, Allah does not grant a certain person relief from a sickness and this is His decision. Undoubtedly there are great rewards and benefits for the person who adopts patience (Sabr) during sickness. Among those benefits; the sins of the ailing person are forgiven, the spiritual status of the sick person is increased, other calamities are warded off from that person, etc. Allah Ta’aala knows best. Adopting permissible cures are permissible and in accordance with the Sunnah but at the same time we will resign ourselves to the Will of Allah. With medication and Du’aa, occasionally give Sadaqah.

A beneficial Du’aa for skin problems is the Du’aa of Hadhrat Ayyub (Alayhis Salaam) recited by him when he was afflicted (Surah Ambiyaa Verse 83). Recite the following in abundance, after every Salaah, etc.:

رَبِّ أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ الضُّرُّ وَأَنْتَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِـمِينَ

RABBI ANNEE MASSANIYAYDH DHURRU WA ANTA ARHAMUR RAAHIMEEN.

Allah Ta’aala accepts the Du’aas of a distressed person but the acceptance can be in many ways; (a) the actual Du’aa is accepted. (b) Other calamities are removed or prevented from reaching the person in lieu of the Du’aas made. (c) The rewards of the Du’aas are being stored in the hereafter for that person. It is mentioned in a Hadeeth that when the person sees the rewards and benefits of those Du’aas in the hereafter which were not accepted in this world, he will wish that no Du’aa of his was accepted in the world. Our duty is to regularly and constantly beg and plead from Allah and we should firmly believe that the Du’aas are being accepted, but it is His decision to accept it in a form He decides.

It is mentioned in a Hadeeth that when a woman is pregnant from her husband and he is pleased with her, she receives the reward of a person who fasts during the day and stays up in prayer during the night while at the same time he is fighting in the path of Allah. (Kanzul Ummaal V16 P405). This is a great reward and may Allah grant you this reward in full, Aameen.

May Allah Ta’aala grant you Shifaa, Aameen
