Zakaat based on Conditions

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by CouncilofUlama.co.za

Q: I went to India and saw my cousins in very poor conditions. House broken down, children wearing old clothes on Eid and hardly any food. I gave him zakat as a gift and did not tell him it’s zakat. When I came home I felt uneasy and asked him if he has any savings or property and stuff. So he said yes he bought an extra big property as an asset/investment. So now is my zakat done or must I regive it?

A: Your Zakat has been discharged. However, nowadays try to investigate a little more before hand when giving out Zakat.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best
