Q: I am a hanafi currently in a hanbali/salafi masjid. There are two jumuahs. The imam led first jumuah before Zuhr’s beginning time. I joined in with niyyah (intention) of nafl. The same imam then led a second jumuah in its proper time. I prayed behind him with niyyah of jumuah. Is my jumuah done seeing as the imam is praying his jumuah for a second time?
A: According to the Hanafi Math-hab the first Jumu’ah was not valid.
Therefore, your jumu’ah behind the Imaam who performed the second Jumu’ah is valid.
The principal governing such differences between math-habs is that the determinant for the validity or invalidity is according to the math-hab of the muqtadi. Therefore, in terms of the Hanafi Math-hab the Hanafi muqtadi salaah is valid because according to the Hanafi math-hab the Imaams Jumu’ah is valid.
