Holding Hands in Salah.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

Assalamu alaikum ,
Can a person who follow Maliki fiqh hold hands (Qabd) in Salah ? Is it compulsory for a Maliki to not to fold hands in Salah (Sadl)?
If it is allowed to fold hands (Qabd) in salah according to Maliki fiqh , then in which manner should I fold my hands ? i.e, Above the Navel ( like Shafis and Hanbalis) or Below the navel ( like Hanafis) ? Should I hold the forearms ( like Shafi) or hold the wristbone (like Hanbalis ) while in Qabd according to Maliki school of thought ?

Answer

Wa ʿAlaykumus Salām Wa Raḥmatullāhī Wa Barakātuh

The scholars have stated that there are no authentic proofs that substantiate the opinion of Imām Mālik (may Allāh have mercy on him) in terms of leaving the hands at the sides during the standing position in Ṣalāh.

The position of the Mālikī Madhab is the same as that of the Shāfiʿī Madhab in that hands will be folded in the following manner:

To place the right hand on the left hand, and to grab the left wrist bone with the right hand together with some of the wrist and forearm.

The placement of the hands will be above the navel but below the chest.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best
