Is it haram to speak during conjugal relations?

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Qibla.com

Is it haram to speak during conjugal relations?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

It is not unlawful to speak during one’s intimate relations, rather it is disliked, unless there is need, as the imams have stated.

[Editor’s note: If someone asks: Isn’t that excessive? There are two answers: (a) the example of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is the most beautiful of examples in all aspects of life; (b) it isn’t haram to talk during intercourse, and its dislikedness returns to propriety, rather than grave misconduct.]

السؤال : هل يحرم الكلام أثناء المجامعة ؟ الجواب : لا يحرم الكلامُ أثناء المجامعة ، لكنه مكروهٌ إلا لحاجة كما صرحوا به .
