Is Fajr Jamaat silent?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Assalaamualaikum,

I have always lead or prayed fajr jamaat non silently but i had a friend from NY who lead it silently. Is there a group out there that leads fajr silently and is it wrong?

It is Wajib to do the Qiraat with loud voice in Fajr Salat and in my knowledge there is no مسلک (Maslak way) yet which is convinced of سر ی (Sirri low voice) Qiraat in Fajr Salat. As جہر (loud Qiraat) was not found in the Salat led by your friend, therefore, due to leaving out a Wajib the Salat became فاسد (void). It is imperative on the Imam and the followers to repeat the Salat.
