What do I do in silent prayer?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

What should one do who finds – in a quiet congregational prayer, where he doesn’t recite himself – that his mind wonders onto wordly matters, due to being “blank” so to speak, since he is not reciting, which if he were, would focus his attention on that (recitation) and prevent it wondering?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

Two options are: to either “think” of the fatiha in one’s mind (without reciting it with one’s lips), or to bring to mind the Tremendousness of Allah, in whose presence one is.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani.
