The Islamic butchers in our city purchase live chickens from big farms. Alot of information has come out these days that suggests that chickens are fed the ground meat of other animals (possibly pork) to reduce costs, and at times, according to the book “Not on the Label” they even eat their own kind i.e. other dead chickens. Does this effect the ruling of the Islamiclly slaughtered chicken?
Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,
I pray this finds you in the best of health and spirits.
It is unethical and impermissible to feed meat of any kind to chickens and cattle. It is a communal obligation to strive to stop and condemn such practices.
This does not, however, render the meat itself to be haram, if properly slaughtered. If there are negative health implications, then eating such meat would be better to avoid, particularly if other altneratives are readily available.
And Allah alone gives success.
