Distributing Udhiya/Qurbani Meat to Needy Non-Muslims

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

The local community here is organizing a program where they can help distribute meat of the udhiya/qurbani to local needy. This would include Muslims and non-Muslims. Is it permissible in the hanafi school to distribute the meat of udhiya among local non-Muslims?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate

May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon His Messenger Muhammad, his folk, companions, and followers

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

There is nothing wrong with this. The ritual act is the sacrifice itself. The meat can be distributed (or consumed) in any way one wishes, though the sunna is to use it in the way of most benefit, which is why it is recommended to consume some, and to give some in charity.

Wassalam
