Uncle’s Kiss?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

I am getting married soon and the groom side’s real uncles (maternal and paternal) have this tradition of kissing the bride on the forehead. How should I go about this situation?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

A woman cannot be touched by her husband’s uncles. It is highly blameworthy to do so even above the hijab, because it entails highly inappropriate physical proximity, and is similar to the haram (direct contact). As such, it would have to be completely avoided. How? The husband has to take a stand. It is his family, and it is his duty to uphold his wife’s right to obey Allah Most High.

And Allah knows best.

Wassalam,
Faraz Rabbani.
