Hadith on pride

Is there a Hadith, wherein Rasulullah (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) mentioned that if a person has an atom of pride, he will be deprived of even the fragrance of Jannah, whereas the fragrance of Jannah will extend to a distance of a journey of 500 years out of Jannah?

Answer

Sayyiduna ‘Uqbah ibn ‘Amir (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that he heard Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) saying: “The person who has pride to the extent of a mustard seed, will not be permitted to smell or see Jannah when he passes away”

(Musnad Ahmad, vol. 4 pg. 151)

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “The person who has an atom of pride will not enter Jannah”

(Sahih Muslim, hadith: 91)

There are numerous narrations which state that the fragrance of Jannah can be smelt from a distance of one hundred to one thousand years away. However I have not seen it as part of this particular narration.

(See Sunan ibn Majah, hadith: 2053, Musnad Ahmad, vol. 5 pgs. 27, 46, 50)

Note: There is no harm in quoting the words that you have provided, although it is a combination of more than one hadith.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best
