The eyes that won’t cry on the day of Qiyamah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Is this narration authentic:

عن أبي هريرة ، رضي الله عنه، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: كل عين باكية يوم القيامة، إلا عينا غضت عن محارم الله، وعينا سهرت في سبيل الله، وعينا يخرج منها مثل رأس الذباب من خشية الله عز وجل

Answer

Imam Abu Nu’aym (rahimahullah) recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu’anhu)

(Hilyatul Awliya, Hadith: 3663)

‘Allamah Mundhiri and Hafiz Dimyati (rahimahumallah) has also referenced this to Kitabut Targhib of Imam Isbahani (rahimahullah) while also indicating towards its weakness. ‘Allamah Mundhiri (rahimahullah) has cited this Hadith thrice in his book; Targhib, Hadith: 1858, 2840 & 4867.

Despite the weakness of its chain, one may still quote it as ‘Allamah Mundhiri saw it fit to be cited in his book several times.

The Hadith is corroborated and is therefore reliable.

Refer: Al-Mudawi, Hadith: 2542.

Translation

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said:

‘Every eye will cry on the Day of Qiyamah except the eye that avoids what Allah has prohibited, the eye that passed the night awake in the path of Allah, and the eye that sheds a tear the amount of a fly’s head due to the fear of Allah Ta’ala.’

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
