The definition of pride

What is the definition of pride in Hadith?

Answer

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) has defined pride in the following Hadith:

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “The person who has the weight of a mustard seed of pride in his heart, will not enter Jannah. Someone said, ‘A man likes his clothing and shoes to be beautiful/superior’ [i.e. will this be regarded as pride?]. Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘Allah is certainly beautiful and he loves beauty. Pride is disdaining the truth [due to self conceit and arrogance] and contempt for people.”

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 91)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
