The earnings of one’s children

What is the authenticity of this Hadith?

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Certainly your children are the most pure of your earnings so eat from what your children earn [as per your need]”

Answer

Imams Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah (rahimahumallah) have recorded this as part of a longer Hadith on the authority of  Amr bin Shu’ayb who reports, from his father, from his grandfather (who was Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn  ‘Amr ibnil ‘As radiyallahu’anhuma).

Imam Nasai (rahimahullah) has recorded the Hadith on the authority of Sayyidah ‘Aaishah (radiyallahu ‘anha).

(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 3524, Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith, 2292 and Sunan Nasai; Al Mujtaba, Hadith: 4450)

The narrators are all reliable.

(Refer: Footnotes of Shaykh Muhammad ‘Awwamah on Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 3524, Zawaid Ibn Majah, Hadith: 761. Also see Al Maqasidul Hasanah, Hadith: 196)

Kindly refer to a Mufti/Darul Ifta for a Fiqh ruling on this issue.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
