My father’s earnings

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

My dad has a lawful job but he also takes riba from the bank. And he always buys me stuff. Am I allowed to accept anything from him? Because I don’t know whether the thing he bought me is from his income or the riba because its all mixed together. So for example, if he buys me food, can I eat it? Or if he invites me over for food. Or buys me a car, pays for school, etc..

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

Given that his job and majority of his earnings are lawful, you can assume that what he buys you is from this lawful money, and it is thus permitted for you to accept it. [Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
