Salatul Hajah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Is the above Hadith suitable for practice?

Answer

In short, one may practice on this -since it has been proven as a successful formula-, without considering it as an authentic narration. See below for details.

Translation

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu’anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said:

Twelve rak’ahs which you pray during the night or day and you recite tashahhud after every two rak’ahs, then when you recite tashahhud at the end of your salah, praise Allah Ta’ala and send salutations (durud) upon Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) then perform sajdah and recite Surah Fatihah seven times whilst in sajdah and say [ten times]:

La ilaha illahu wahdahu la sharika lahu lahul mulku walahul hamdu wahuwa ‘ala kuli shayin qadir

then say:

Allahuma ini asaluka bi mu’aqadil ‘izi min ‘arshika wa mutahar rahmati min kitabika wasmikal a’zami wa jidikal a’la wa kilmatikat tammah

then ask your needs, thereafter lift up your head and make salam to the right and the left. Do not teach it to the foolish ones for they will supplicate with it and it will be answered.

Suitable for Practice

Despite the chain for this Hadith being declared as quite weak, ‘Allamah Mundhiri (rahimahullah) -after quoting the narration and pointing out its defect- cited the testimony of several of the narrators of this Hadith, that they found the effect stated in this Hadith to be accurate.

He (Mundhiri -rahimahullah) then states:

‘In matters like this, experience takes precedence over the [condition of] the chain.’

(Targhib, vol.1 pg.478)

i.e, based on the experience of these narrators, one learns that this deed has its desired effect. Therefore one may do the same, but not consider it as a sunnah.

See here for more on deeds like this.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
