Placing one’s hand on a sick person and inquiring about his condition

Is this authentic?

“To complete and perfect visiting the ill, one of you place his hand on his forehead or -Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said- on his hand and ask him how is he doing”

Answer

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) and others have recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2731)

Imam Tirmidhi has declared the Hadith weak. Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) has also declared the chain weak (Fathul Bari, Hadith: 5660). However, the Hadith is suitable to quote as is the case with Hadiths of this nature, especially since it is also supported by the fact that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would himself also place his hand on the sick person. (Refer: Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 5659)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
