Water up the nose in wudu and ghusl

How far up the nose does water need to go in wudu and ghusl? The problem I have is sometimes I feel sick, and I think it is because of sniffing water too far up my nose. I feel headaches and other discomfort in my head/nose. While I am feeling sick, would it be possible not to sniff water up my nose until I recover?
