I am a 16 years old Muslim girl seeking guidance. Please give answers to a few of my questions:

1.Can you tell me in what ayat of the Quran it says that eyebrow plucking is haram?

2.Are girls allowed to wear jeans in Islam? (not in front of men, just beneath abaya)

3.Are haircutting and hair colouring allowed?

4.If I wear a locket with ‘Allah’ written on it, is it ok to go to the bathroom wearing it?

Wa’alaykum as Salām wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuhu,

1) One of the primary objectives of Nabi’s صلي الله عليه وسلم mission was to expound on the Quran. Allah Ta’āla says,

وأنزلنا إليك الذكر لتبين للناس ما نزل إليهم ولعلهم يتفكرون (44)

“We have revealed to you the remembrance (the Qurān) so that you can explain to people what is revealed to them in order that they can ponder.”

Hence, we find that many actions which have been mentioned vaguely in the Qurān have been elucidated in the noble Ahādīth. Amongst other actions is the method of salāh, the nisāb of zakāh, the procedure of haj, the amount of jizyah and many other actions which are all explicated in the Sunnah. An incident
is narrated in Sunan al-Bayhaqi where the great Sahābi, ‘Imrān bin Husain (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him) became enraged on the person who demanded an explicit verse of the Qurān after the former cited a hadith.

Furthermore, there are numerous verses in the Qurān which exhorts us to obey Nabi صلي الله عليه وسلم. For example, consider the following:

(1)يا أيها الذين آمنوا أطيعوا الله وأطيعوا الرسول
(2)وأطيعوا الله وأطيعوا الرسول واحذروا
(3)قل أطيعوا الله وأطيعوا الرسول فإن تولوا فإنما عليه ما حمل وعليكم ما حملتم
(4)وأطيعوا الرسول لعلكم ترحمون
(5)يا أيها الذين آمنوا أطيعوا الله وأطيعوا الرسول ولا تبطلوا أعمالكم
(6)وأطيعوا الله وأطيعوا الرسول فإن توليتم فإنما على رسولنا البلاغ المبين

Thus, the prohibition of plucking eyebrows has been established from numerous narrations. (1)

However, it should be remembered that if the eyebrows have become so dense that it is unseemly for a woman and incites abhorrence in her husband, it is permissible to trim it to a more appropriate and normal size. (2)

(5) Firstly, jeans are the dressing of the disbelievers and those who are fussāq. Secondly, they are generally tight fitted. Thus, one should abstain from wearing jeans. (3)

(6) A woman can only cut the amount of her fingernail from her hair. It is not permissible for a woman to cut her hair more than this. A woman is permitted to dye her hair in colours besides black. (4)

(7) If the blessed name of Allāh is completely concealed, it will be permissible. If the blessed name is exposed, it will not be permissible.

واخلولقوا وتمعددوا كأنكم معد وإياكم والتنعم وزي العجم أفلا ترى أنه نهاهم عن زي العجم وأمرهم بالتمعدد وهو العيش الخشن الذي تعرفه العرب فكذلك الأكل متكئا
نهوا عنه لأنه فعل العجم وأما الشرب قاعدا فأمروا به خوفا مما يحدث عليهم في صدورهم وليس في ذلك شيء من زي العجم (شرح معاني الآثار – الطحاوي

وروى عن ابن عمر رضي الله عنهما أنه سئل كم تقصر المرأة فقال مثل هذه يعني مثل الأنملة فإن قصرت ذلك المقدار من أحد جانبي رأسها وذلك يبلغ النصف أو دونه
