Looking at Women

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Looking at Women

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

To look at non-mahram women is unlawful in Islam.

Allah (SWA) in the Holy Quran has said:

“O Nabi!  Tell the believing men to lower their gaze.”  (Surah Noor v.30)

It is narrated by Saaiduna Abu Hurairah Radiallahu Anhu that the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam said, “Allah has written the very portion of zina which a man will indulge in.  There will be no escape from it.  The zina of the eye is the lustful look, the zina of the ears is the listening (to songs or talk), the zina of the tongue is speech, the zina of the hand is the (lustful) grip, the zina of the feet is the walking (to the place where he intends to commit zina), the heart yearns and desires and the private parts approve all that or disapprove it.”  (Sahih Muslim p.336 v.2)
