Are There Any Halal Games That Can Be Played

Question

Are there any halal (Islam permitted) games that can be played?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Allah mentions in The Holy Quran: ‘And of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech to mislead (others) from the way of Allah without the knowledge and who takes it in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment.’[1]

According to the teachings of Islam, the permissibility and impermissibility of games would depend on the nature and type of game it is. So, here we can divide them into two groups:

  1. If the content of the game is such a nature that it goes against the teachings of Islamic principles, then such games will be impermissible.
  2. If the content of the game is such nature that it does not go against the teachings of Islamic principles, then such games will be permissible.

However, there should be no form of gambling involved in any games as this will not be permissible according to the overwhelming majority of scholars.[2]

Therefore, one should also bear in mind that engaging in games should not lead to neglecting one’s religious duties.

Only Allah knows best
