Question
If a girl lives in a girls hostel in another country for her studies but she goes there with her mahram, he settles her there and comes back after that, is it halal for her to live there?
And if she travel via plane alone and the time duration is less than 3 days is it halal for her?

Answer:

I put your question to one of my experienced teachers as it requires worldly experience as well as Islamic knowledge.

He advised such a thing is not advisable. The reason being, there have been a few cases where, despite the sister being settled there, problems, as well as safety issues have arisen.

As far as time duration is concerned then, you must know the calculation is done using the distance traveled not using a three day time period. So If she travels more than 54.5 miles (or 48 Shar’ee miles) alone then she must be accompanied by a Mahram.
