Is there a difference in Islamic rulings for a Muslim who passed away after a sex change operation?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Assalamualaikum, Dear Mufti Saib, It is not uncommon in todays times for both male and female to have sex change operations…. for whatever reason………. 1-what is the status of a muslim person who passes away after having had a sex change operation? 2-How is the mayet conducted? 3-Who gives the bath to the janaza? – for a male (previously female)? and vice versa? 4-Janaza namaaz… for male and female?

Answer

(Fatwa: 308/221=L/1430)

It is haram and major sin to have sex-change operation. Muslims aught not to do it, the hadith curses the men adopting the resemblance of women and women adopting the resemblance of men. And changing gender is more heinous. However, if someone got sex-change operation and the gender was changed e.g. previously if it was man and changed to a woman, then it will be treated as woman. Likewise, if it was woman and changed to man, then it will be treated as man.
