Musjid as Requirement for Juma

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by CouncilofUlama.co.za

Q: Is it a requirement for the validity of Jumu’ah that it be in a masjid and not an ordinary Musallaa? If so, what is the proof for it? I was taught that a masjid is a requirement to have jumu’ah, but now I’ve been told that it’s not a condition in the Hanafi madhab to have it in a masjid. Please advise me.

A: A musjid is not a requirement for the validity of jumma. According to the hanafi mazhab a town or city is a requirement for the validity of jumma. Thus jumma will not be valid in a village
