Pregnancy and Fasting

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by CouncilofUlama.co.za

Q: I am 9 weeks pregnant and vomiting approximately 6 times a day and I am on medication which is not helping. What is the ruling on fasting in Ramadhaan for me?

A: If a Muslim doctor advises you that in order to control the vomiting and to safeguard your pregnancy, you should not fast, then it is permissible for you to act on that advice and NOT fast. However you shall have to keep the Qadhaa after Ramadhaan once you are well again.
