Assalamualikuam. I have a friend who has a question. He wants to know whom among relatives from future wife and from future husband relative cannot be witnesses of a Nikah? Who can be a witnesses of a Nikah from among to be wife relative and the to be husband relative? Please list the relative that can and not be witnesses of a Nikah (Marriage) based on Hanafi and Shafie Mathabs namely brothers, sister’s husbands, nephews and so on. Aminjan Jazaka? Allah P.S. Please kindly please reply urgently. Jazaka? Allah

Answer

If a person is a Muslim, baaligh (mature), aaqil (sane) and free (not slave), he can be a witness to a Nikah.

There must be at least one man and 2 women, or 2 men as witnesses for the Nikah to be valid. If a dispute takes place regarding the Nikah, then the Shari?ah laws of Shahaadah will apply.
