Injections whilst fasting

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

Assalamu alaykum,

Does injections break fasts?

Answer

Wa’akaIaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

If medication is being injected into the body, it will be fine. Such an injection will not nullify the fast. (Ahsanul Fataawa vol.4 pg.432).

If nutrition is being injected, such that a person will become independent of food, then although the fast will not break, it will still be markruh (reprehensible).

Finally, if an injection is given directly into the stomach, the fast will be nullified. (Fatawa Mahmudiyyah, 10/154), Fatawa Darul Ulum Zakariyyah, 3/291)
