Q: I am a student studying in Turkey. Here, our girls need to wear long trousers. Over the trousers, we wear long clothes up to the knee. My friends told me wearing trousers is a characteristic of boys`style. They told me it is haram and not permissible. Is this true?
A. Wearing of trousers/pants by females has been praised in the Hadeeth. A Hadeeth mentions that the pants provides more concealment and is a protection for women. While expressing his happiness, Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi wa Sallam) also made Du’aa of forgiveness thrice for those females among the Ummah who wear trousers. (Al Aadaab Bayhaqi V2 P194).
The pants of a female should not resemble the pants of a male; it should be thick and loose-fitting, and well below the ankles.
