Is weeping during Qunut permissible in Shafi Mazhab in Sri Lanka?

Assalamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakathuhu! During Witr Salat, the Imam was reading qunut and started weeping. Later another alim objected to this and said it is not permissible. We follow Shafi Mazhab in Sri Lanka. Shall be grateful for your opinion on this. Jezakallahu Khairan

Why the imam started weeping? If he wept because of physical pain, it will nullify the salah, the imam and the muqtadis should perform the salah again. But if he wept remembering the aakhirah or due to the fear of Jannah or Jahannam, the salah will not be nullified.

This ruling is according to the Hanafi school of Fiqh. If you are a Shafi?i you should ask the question to any scholar of your maslak.
