In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent and the Most Merciful
Let it be known that neither Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Alihi Wa Sallam himself nor any one of his noble Sahaba (companions) Radhiyallahu Anhum Ajma’een celebrated the Meelad (birth) of our beloved Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Alihi Wa Sallam. Also none of the Thabi’een or pious predecessors after them has celebrated Meelad functions. The fact of not celebrating Meelad by any one of them is a concrete proof that it is not an act of Sunnath. Therefore, it is Bid’ath (Innovation) to perform an act considering it to be Sunnath, whereas it not a Sunnath act in reality. Further, in the present era such type of gatherings do contain many a kind of evils and negative consequences, hence it is incumbent upon both, males and females, to refrain from participating in such gatherings.
