The parents of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

What is the status of the parents of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)? Are they regarded as Muslims or Disbelievers?

Answer

The view of the senior ‘Ulama of Deoband is that we abstain from discussing the issue of the Islam of the parents of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). Not every question has an answer.

‘Allamah Shabbir Ahmad ‘Uthmani (rahimahullah) the famed student of Moulana Anwar Shah Kashmiri (rahimahullah) and Shaykhul Hind (rahimahullah) states:

“…وليست من المسائل التي يضر جهلها أو يسأل عنها في القبر، أو في الموقف، فحفظ اللسان عن التكلم فيها إلا بخير أولى وأسلم”

Translation

‘It is not from those issues which will harm us if we are ignorant of them. We will not be questioned about it in the grave or on Qiyamah. Therefore it’s better and safer to protect the tongue from discussing anything but good’

(Fathul Mulhim, Vol.2 pg. 251- Darul Qalam. Also refer to: Fatawa Mahmudiyyah, vol.5 pg. 353)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
